The Menstrual Phase

Typically lasts around 3 - 5 days. 

However, this number may be affected by a variety of different reasons (including birth control, hormonal imbalances, and medical conditions)

What our body is doing

  • The end of the Luteal Phase

  • Estrogen & Progesterone levels drop

  • Uterine lining is being shed

  • Exercise feels harder as body is depleted of energy

  • Progesterone breaks down muscles --> recovery is slower

  • Abdominal contractions (cramping)

  • Symtoms:

    • Energy is low

    • Bloating (fluid retention)

    • Cramping

    • Mood Swings

Menstrual Cycle Do's

  • Low intensity workouts

  • Focus on recovery 

    • Take rest days​

  • Eat iron rich foods + vitamin C rich foods​

  • Take magnesium
